Halifax County, Virginia

William Pettypool, son of Seth and Martha, was born by 1747, probably in either Brunswick or Lunenburg County, Virginia.³ He died before 24 May 1813 in Halifax County, Virginia.⁴ Frequently confused by earlier compilers with his older Lunenburg County cousin, this William lived out his life near the North Carolina border along Aaron’s Creek, the watercourse forming the boundary between Halifax and Mecklenburg counties. Serving with the rank of ensign in the Revolutionary War infantry company commanded by Captain Richard Jones, William bore the colors of his unit.⁵
